16 March 2010. Consul Paul Cortes took his Oath Of Office as Career Minister following his passing of the rigorous Career Ministers’ Examinations which made him eligible for appointment by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Consul General Cardenas administered the Oath of Office in a ceremony attended by Consul Cortes’ wife, Yasmin Cortes, and their two children, Justin and Andre and witnessed by all the Officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General.
Consul Paul Cortes hails from Baguio City. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Ateneo De Manila and is currently finishing his Master's Degree in Public Management. He passed the Foreign Service Examinations in 1995 and from thereon held various positions in the Home Office including Director, Office of Protocol and State Visits (1997-1998) and Director, Office of European Affairs (2004-2006), and at the Philippine Embassy in Budapest, Hungary as Second Secretary and Consul (1998-2004). He was posted at the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu in 2006.
In his remarks, Consul General Cardenas congratulated Consul Cortes for his promotion, which is the second highest rank in the Philippine Foreign Service, after the Chief of Mission rank, and appreciated the presence of Consul Cortes’ family, particularly his two young sons, as they bear witness to their father’s very important career milestone.
