WW II Filipino-American veterans may be eligible for up to $15,000 in compensation for their service under a provision of the recently signed stimulus bill. On 17 February 2009, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The act authorizes cash payments to Filipino and Filipino-American veterans of WW II. WW II Filipino-American Veterans must apply for this one time lump sum compensation and the Office of Veterans Affairs is prepared to assist. Claims are now being accepted from eligible Filipino veterans for this one-time payment of $9,000 for non-U.S. citizens and $15,000 for Filipino veterans who are now US citizens. Veterans have until 16 February 2010 to apply.

The WW II Filipino veterans must have the following information or documentation submitted with the claim:

  • two (2) forms of identification (Driver's License, State-issued ID, VA-issued ID, etc.)
  • Copies of military discharge documents showing qualifying service
  • Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) claim number and/or VA claim number

  • U.S. citizens must bring their U.S. passport

In order to recieve this benefit, WW II Filipino veterans need to be briefed on the specifics of teh entitlement and to file a claim at the US Department of Veterans Affairs Manila Regional Office. VA Benefit Counselors at Tripler Medical Center, 459 Patterson Road, E-Wing, Tel No. 1-800-827-1000, can brief on the specifics of the entitlement and assist in filing the 21-4138(CF) VA claim form.
