26 February 2010. The very talented and culturally-authentic BIN-I Cultural Troupe of the Mariano Marcos State University will participate in the 16th Annual Honolulu Festival to be held at the Hawaii Convention Center from 12-14 March 2010, courtesy of Philippine Department of Tourism – Region 1. The 3-day festival will feature a Philippine Booth that will display the arts and crafts of Region 1, cultural performances and will culminate in a Grand Parade at Kalakua Avenue on 14 March 2010 starting from 4:00 pm.
Attended by an average of 15,000 people, the Festival, is a major event that helps showcase Philippine culture, arts and craft and tourism in Honolulu. It is sponsored by the Honolulu Festival Foundation and co-sponsored by the State of Hawaii, the City and Country of Honolulu, among others, to foster cultural relations between the people of the United States and the Asia-Pacific region
The troupe Bin-I, which took its name from “bukel” or seed, is very active in the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Ilocos, and has performed in various events like the DOT WOW Philippines regional showcase in Intramuros Manila. The troupe has likewise emerged as champions in different dance competitions held in the Philippines in ethnic dance category. Bin-I will perform traditional folk dances such as “Binatbatan,” “Karatong” and “Ilocano a Nasundi.”
